Dr. Shao reviewed the CT scan with Robin and me, reporting that the new lesions we must assume are cancer and that they are fast growing. The lesions are in my vertebrae and ribs, and possibly other areas of my body not scanned.
Dr. Shao will refer me to a sarcoma specialist. There may be
some drug or treatment that will retard the progression of the disease but
there isn’t any known path to a cancer-free future. Dr. Shao’s recommendation
is to radiate areas that give me pain and try a chemo treatment to slow the
cancer’s growth.
I asked him how long I have. He said in 2005 he never
expected me to be in his office in 2021, all to say nobody knows about these
things.
At the moment I’m in pain, my hamstring aching constantly
from a mysterious injury. The next step is to get a full-body PET scan which may
point the way to treating my aching leg.
Jeff and I are thinking of you (and Robin and family) and holding hope for a path that brings comfort and improvement <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeleteEric,
ReplyDeleteI will not waste your time repeating mine and everyone else’s opinion on just how terrible cancer is. Instead, I will remind you of what we discussed. Now more than ever, you must find every beautiful moment you can and appreciate it fully. Love your family as hard as you can. Even though you are the one who is sick, they will need your strength more than anything now. We all love you and are here for you. Anything you need just call. Finally, never give up hope. I have seen some crazy things happen with this disease, and sometimes it disappears as fast as it came. Fight like hell buddy, we are all in your corner.
Love Dennis and Andrew
F#*K CANCER. Warmest wishes and prayers for a good outcome, and for the strength and courage that come from the love and wishes of family and friends. - peter ackerman
